News Past updates: County health officials reopen Vancouver Lake to swimming July 11, 2014 -- Clark County Public Health has reopened Vancouver Lake to swimming and Public Health will continue to monitor Vancouver Lake for bacteria every two weeks this Vancouver Lake closed to swimmers due to elevated E.coli bacteria July 10, 2014 -- Clark County today closed Vancouver Lake to swimming and wading after routine testing showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria, which can cause serious gastrointestinal illness when water is accidentally swallowed. Vancouver Lake Regional Park will remain open to the public. Water within the restrooms and shelters is unaffected by the lake water and remains safe to drink. The health warning will remain in effect until tests show that E. coli levels do not exceed Washington State and US Environmental Protection Agency guidelines. Algae Bloom Advisory Lifted for Vancouver Lake Sept. 20, 2103 -- Clark County Public Health has lifted a health advisory for recreational use of Vancouver Lake after inspections of the water and lab results indicate cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) is no longer a threat to the health of people and pets.
“Even though it’s late in the season, we are pleased to announce that the lake is again open for swimming and other recreational uses,” said Dr. Alan Melnick, Clark County Health Officer, who cautioned that people should be observant and avoid any pockets of the lake that might have a scummy texture and a green, bluish, brownish, or reddish-green color.
